ECOPLANET FOUNDATION - SOUTH AFRICA
EcoPlanet Bamboo runs sustainable bamboo plantations and associated manufacturing facilities in South Africa's Eastern Cape. This area was once a thriving agricultural community, but the decline of the pineapple industry in the 2000''s left communities unemployed, impoverished and with few options for livelihood improvement.

Bringing improved and safe electricity to a number of homes within one of our target communities.
Upgrading of sanitation for communities is linked to a reduction in hygiene related disease.

Environmental Education
During our regular celebrations we focus on using song and dance to bring environmental literacy to our communities.
Security is a major issue in South Africa. We have assisted our target communities with the provision of secure doors and working locks for a number of households.

EcoPlanet Bamboo's staff dedicate regular work days to the beautification and upgrading of surrounding townships and ensuring that community green spaces are kept clean, safe and welcoming for local residents.

Celebration of Xhosa Culture
Our local Xhosa communities are given frequent opportunities to use traditional song, dance and local culture to merge the bamboo plantation operations with the local way of life.
Communities in South African townships have become dependent on government sponsorship leading to a reduction in household produced food and an increase in obesity levels. We are carrying out a series of training sessions on the development of community vegetable gardens.
